constantly bathing our
ears in sound
minds cluttered with
thought
and when we dive into
silence
our demons start
screaming
grabbing at our necks
filling our hearts with
fear
for it is unknown
all the stuffed clutter
gets loose
from deep within the
bones
where cracks appear
suffocating feeling
produces a sigh
and when the screaming
stops
sense of peace spreads
into the core of our
breathing
This is filled with a world of wonder!
ReplyDeleteAfter a day's work (in a school) I welcome the sound of silence and indeed need it to declutter my brain. But I know that silence can also be a distressing place.
ReplyDeleteAt times circumstances of life play joyously and sometimes in a sad way.
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes it definitely happens that in the silent times our demons start screaming. I wonder sometimes if that is why people bombard themselves with so much 'noise' (television, radio, music, etc.) in their lives -- to keep those demons at bay. We all seek peace in our own way, it seems. Perhaps some find it in silence & some in sound?
ReplyDeleteThis is palpable horror.. to imagine what its like if an inner voice is screaming inside of you .. and we are seeking a way to tone it down!
ReplyDeletei think we have to get used again to silence sometimes... once the noise fades we process all kind of things.. glad when peace rolls in finally
ReplyDeleteI often crave silence...without all the man made noise...for the subtle sounds of nature and the blissful true silent times we rarely can find. Wonderful images this conjured for me Nataša.
ReplyDeleteI think that silence scares us more than anything. A void to fill, that it takes year to understand that it's really what we need...
ReplyDeleteSometimes in silence we hear things that have been in the backdrop of life for awhile. I do believe silence can be good depending on the situation at hand.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure we can all remember a time when we needed a good clean scream!
ReplyDeletesounds like gestalt to me

Wow...'the sound of silence'...such time of tranquility is one of absolute bliss for me ...it soothes the soul, quietens my inner beast, brings out the goodness in me, allows me to hear myself. Zen habit, as they say. Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteHi there Natasa, I was excited to be coming here again tonight, always looking forward to the sparkly bravery of your work and I wash;t disappointed.. I find myself relating to what you write very easily - which means you are either a great writer OR we are both as craze as each other... Ha! Ha! With Best Wishes as always Scott www.scotthastie.com
ReplyDeleteYour poem guided me from a calm state, through the agony of overwhelming emotions that attack me from time to time, and then back out beyond their grasp into calm. Thank you
ReplyDeleteTrue!

I use my Sacred word to clear them from my mind. :-)
Perhaps we are also partly to blame why these demons enter into our system.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful whirl of words and emotions with silence at its center.Thank you,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Letting go until we are emptied out and are left with the soft sound of a sigh ... and then silence ... is cathartic and healing. An insightful, awesome piece of writing.
ReplyDeleteYeah... got to find a way to stop the screaming...
ReplyDeleteI wonder if everything goes smooth slick and the demons fall, for there is nothing for them to hold...
ReplyDeleteso difficult to subdue the inner clamor..but once it's gone there's an ocean of tranquility...silence is actually the silence of the mind....so truthfully captivated here...a beautiful poem Natasa...
ReplyDeleteThat move from sounds to silence is so jarring. Well written.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this, Natasa! I've found meditation and yoga helps to deal with the demons. Of course some are easier to deal with than others. Nice writing and imagery :)
ReplyDeleteSolid wisdom poetry!
ReplyDeleteFine observation...change focus, find the peace...

Natasa,
ReplyDeleteThere can be instances when the sound of silence, can be most welcome; at other times, it can be scary and send one's mind out of control...depending on individual circumstances of course..

So many people find silence hard - I think maybe it's because they find themselves hard to hear...i think silence is beautiful..think of all those lovely thoughts and words that come from it...
