Poem: Let it grow

I was in a hurry
following the plan
not to be late
as I passed by an older man
limping, slowly walking
from his morning walk
through the meadow
for in his hands he held
a bouquet of freshly picked
wild flowers
.

it made me wonder who they were for
who in his life journey did he meet
to care, to cherish
and how many life battles
did they undertake
not to fear this war
through little battles
we write our stories
.

either bleeding from the bruises left open
either rejoicing in learning and carrying on
teaching others how to dance
you are the master of your tones
under the skin is where we hide
.

do we allow to be happy and just to be?
and do we let others grow
do we speak in a matter that allows
roses to still grow as roses?

  2. through little battles we write our stories - what a marvellous thought and line...perhaps some of us have to write about those roses in order to learn how to let them grow? A thoughtful poem

  3. One is to persevere and go forward. There can never a be a regret when expressing one's feelings. Others will take it well in most cases! Well expressed Natasa!

  4. A very nice style and tender - most realistic too, and natural contrast betwee the two.

  5. "through little battles / we write our stories"..exactly what we do but the most important thing in life is to let go and 'just to be' and allow ourselves to be happy...nice thought provoking poem :)

  6. Sadly we do hurry through life and often miss the sights and scents of life and the beauty all around us.

  7. Intriguing. I wonder at the person you are describing. I think there is something beautiful to someone dedicating their life to helping others 'dance' and be successful, reaching their dreams - and hopefully in that, we find our own.

  8. Ah, this poem is a good reminder that we can always find a reason to share our flowers (both literally and figuratively) with another person. I like the phrase 'through little battles we write our stories.'

  9. Oh I love how this really grows from that old man with his flowers. We ca weave stories from just a simple image..

  10. sometimes, it is necessary to take a pause or slow it down - we may be missing lots of things already if we are always in the fast-paced mode.

these lines led me to drift to " and they all lived happily ever after" happliy ever after is never without its strifes, reality check

    much love...

  13. Good questions sensitively written, Natasa. I love that we are the master of our tones and "under the skin is where we hide."

  16. This brought to mind, aspects of many of the tenets articulated in the Desiderata. A very thoughtful piece - beautifully rendered.

  18. I especially enjoyed these two lines. We are the master of our own tones..we need to find our voice in life and then we can dance to its song.

    teaching others how to dance
you are the master of your tones

  19. I know many (myself included) who wouldn't have noticed the flower-bearing man, and who also do not allow happiness due to avoidable stress.

  22. Ah, I love how you have developed the poem from observation of 'older man limping with flowers'....'through little battles
we write our stories' ~ effective and thoughtful transitional phrase~ so masterfully you created the poem....and this question about letting others to grow their rose within, to listen 'the tones and dances'. Thanks for sharing :)x

  24. "through little battles
    we write our stories"
Yes! This is the truth.....we write our stories through our life's battles...and how we have fought them, how they have left us bruised and battered, how the scars have been borne on our bodies and/or strengthened us and toughened us up. Beautiful write.
