Poem: Sigh

your feet have stepped

on the same staircase

hundreds of times

in haste and in languidness

I can hear creaking of wood on certain parts

over-used with heavy burden

like a sigh reaching out from the lungs

a well-known and established path

has taken you on plenty of different journeys

some even made you question the steps you've chosen

and have I been unknowingly walking behind you?

funny, what kind of feelings time can stir up inside

what would it take to diminish your deep-rooted sorrow?

  4. Nicely penned... the steps bear our weight and thus, we shall bear their burden as well.
Sorrow can be tangible.. when we embrace it and carry it forth with us, as a bitter friend.

  6. there's much to be said about the paths we choose and how we walk them...and time surely brings her own questions along... luckily we can always decide to walk new paths and hope to find a way to help others in their sorrow

  7. I liked the ending line 'what would it take to diminish your deep-rooted sorrow?'. Gave a different perspective on the words that preceded it. Very strong work.

  8. Yes, I think sometimes we walk in another's path for a long time without realizing it & before we know it it is we who are inadvertently sharing the other's burden!

  9. Yes - in sorrow we get into that wearisome repetitions.. I must say I enjoyed the metaphor of those worn steps.

  10. I like the images in your poem and the picture you chose to illustrate it. It takes time and hindsight to realize we need to walk on new paths so as not to repeat the same mistakes. Some never even question the relevance if the paths they have chosen.

  11. Love! steps have lungs, passions--as do journeys. I love how the narrator starts up the stairs herself and joins the steps in interpreting the sigh of her friend.

  20. Sometimes the stairs in front of us seem hard to climb.

  21. The photo is compelling as are your words. The deep sorrow on the end alters the image and makes for its own separate journey.
