Poem: Child left behind

days roll faster and faster
things you knew and loved
have gone away or been replaced
pages written have gotten fewer and fewer
you acknowledge the change in the years number
but you're stuck at a point in the past
abandoned by the spoken words
mind free to run through the fields and far beyond
to bathe in the lake of your imagination
found yourself in a conflict with the form
for it is unmoving, stable and caught
but it taught you senses through which you feel
in search for a way in which you could be at ease
to grab the thing that keeps you from singing
and not to be a friend of shadows
there are so many stories in which you played a part
but left them before the end was written
in this world it only matters
how good you sell yourself
how good you please others
what kind of living is this?
when you feel most alive in your dreams
but the fear and expectations push you further
as the desire to return to the child
left behind gets bigger and bigger

In this time and place, I think a lot of people can find themselves in this poem. Did you?

  1. eh it's chilling at times how you encapsulate these moments of doubt, which fleeting as they may be, can be quite heavy and really make someone feel like wasting time and/or not doing enough.. (or is it just me?) not really sure why this need to accomplish so much is so hardcoded into us, but hey, there it is..

it's one of those songs that can really resonate with a person if his feelings are in tune with the theme of your song.. it's like sharing familiarities with a complete stranger who's never seen you before.. but there's a slight comfort in the feeling that he understands. why wouldn't there be, really? ;)

and we've been talking not long ago, about this need that our local artists all seem to exhibit, to get back in touch with the child within, to sort of paint and create freely without the constraints that arise when someone is learning and finding a place in this tumultuous world. obviously i couldn't understand that since coming from a technical point of view, that's just regressing and the last thing i'd want, but you to shine a new light on the subject..

it's a nice song and i do believe that finding oneself in it shouldn't be too hard..

oh and i'm sure you weren't aware of this (as it is an utterly pointless fact) but it does remind me of an act in usa, Bushes "no Child left behind" act.. i wouldn't even mention this, but i sort of feared that you'd write a political song which would be just weird, since you've never done anything of the sort.. though obviously now all i'm thinking about is how that would go.. maybe you should try one?? :)

  2. maybe it's just a way of making ourselves believe that we matter. even though that might fills us with regrets.

and sure, I could give a political song a try.. but mostly, I don't know much about political issues.

    thank you!
