a
discouraging thought of possibility
of adapting
someone elses' mask
has you
running always
away or
towards
staying
would mean deterioration
in a forest
covered with snow
feet stride
with determination
your blood
is your own
names we
cling to
as a
definition of ourselves
as if they
can explain the value
of our existence
it's important to be true to yourself :)
ReplyDeleteWe are what we thunk and do, determination is one of the greatest virtue:)
ReplyDeleteThis one really made me think.. It can be read on so many levels..
ReplyDeleteAhhh the definition of new self - always worthy never as simple as it might appear
ReplyDeleteI can feel tears in this and the taste of forlorn hope, i love the emotion.
ReplyDeletelet your presence feel - show your determination and you will have their respect.
ReplyDeletethough there are times we can't deny that we are like robots being programmed but our own selves will surely show it's true colors...
definitely heartfelt.
ReplyDeletea name or a surname is an added burden sometimes under which a person reels with pressure...what a freedom it is to be shorn off everything...including the ego...a thought provoking write Natasa...
ReplyDeleteLike Sumana said above this is a thought provoking write.
ReplyDeleteA person has value no matter what his/her name. Masks add nothing at all.
ReplyDeleteso sense making thoughts,
ReplyDeletewell phrased verse.
;)
Some people have a difficult time accepting the "mask" they were born with.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it does better than the mask. Or maybe the mask helps with self discovery. A little snow assists the spring.
ReplyDeleteI feel strength in this and the understanding that "your blood is your own."
ReplyDeleteGreat! And what would that existence be?

Natasca,
ReplyDeleteRemaining true to one's own identity, even in difficult times...

Determination will ensure we light up the path for our own directions. Takes a lot of courage to do so and you've said it very well.Great lines Natasa!
ReplyDeleteHank
I feel a strength and determination in these words...power of speaking truth and staying true to yourself
ReplyDeleteYou have really captured the dichotomy between self-awareness and the perceptions others may have of one. Thought-provoking.
ReplyDeletea thought-provoking poem.
ReplyDeletethe last few lines are really memorable. names are a means of identification, but can we really put a value to them?
Staying in the forest covering with snow - the challenging task for sure.... better to take another look at the problem, in the root of it, I guess... x
ReplyDeleteI like your thoughts about masks, and always running away or towards something. It's best to be authentic, ourselves, enough. Lovely write.
ReplyDeleteAlways wear your own face.
ReplyDeletei love the reference of names to the value of existence. i oftentimes see streets or buildings or hospital wards whom are named after the people. i read them names, yet never remember them....much less even know the person behind the name. just makes one think of how anonymous you become after you die...unless you leave something of value OF YOURSELF behind....writing, art, books, just something more than a name on a building wall.
