we were drunk
on LOVE –
it dripped
down our throats like water
with such ease, we never dared
question
answers to
the should've? could've? would've?
seem to fail us, leaving us
certain we went the wrong way
but there
is no storybook simple path
they are what they are, no
matter what names we give them
and only if we follow we see
where they lead
take the
good with the bad and break the shell
just like
wine ages, memories form into pearls
what we are now, was decided in
the past
what we will become requires devotion to time
we can't be
the same as we were when we met
for we
ignited feelings we could never imagine
like two matches burning together
as the snow gently surrounds the space into
silence
then you
smile at me – and I'm...
DISARMED.

Oh love that mature like old wine.. and that smile... it makes me happy to read.. I think you have captured the essence of love..
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Love is like that - it encompasses you. Just beautiful, Nataša.
ReplyDeleteTwo matches burning together... just hope there is no petrol lying about...we know what happens then!Enjoyed this:)
ReplyDeleteDrunk on love! WoW! The path of a relationship is never easy to predict and so hard to tread.
ReplyDeletelove requires courage, ready to be burned out.. nice poem
ReplyDeleteWithout words lovers understand.......................
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely. Great idea using wine with our identities and the changes that we undergo with time in any relationship. I loved the ending. Well-written. :-)

Love... it's inexplicable and so alluring. Wonderful poem!
ReplyDeletethere is no storybook simple path....tru that, love takes a lot more work than people want to believe...but love that lasts turns into something very beautiful
ReplyDeleteThis is a well crafted poem, Natasa. I agree there is no storybook or simple path. I like especially the lines "just like wine ages, memories form into pearls" which say so very much. I like the ending too. Despite whatever goes on in a relationship, a smile can definitely disarm!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful description of a loving relationship.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and thoughtful poem, Natasá! " what we are now, was decided in the past
ReplyDeletewhat we will become requires devotion to time" - this is so true! I also enjoyed your closing lines.
but there is no storybook simple path
ReplyDeletethey are what they are, no matter
what names we give them
Truly said Natase! That's what love is, where it leads and where it goes is open-ended. Nicely!
