another
street
another
chance
yet she
runs away
'cause it's
all she's ever known
all she's
ever loved has perished
no safe
ground to land on
and her
wings flutter with madness
*
no matter
how familiar a name can sound
no matter
where home can be felt
it all
disappears, even if guarded
the surface
of our hearts torn
from all
the shakes we let in
this
man-made suffering
can make a
stone of the heart
*
losing is a
game of the wind
the speed
at which it takes
the blows
it leaves behind
the chills
it sets down the skin
there are
galaxies hidden in the stories we write
and some
words too, may lose their meaning
but in
doing so what do they gain?
*
Yesterday I watched a movie called Short term 12; and since lately I've been feeling like I'm losing everything and everyone, this poem just poured out.
Fortunate those who have not felt this way. Life sadly is more about loss than gain.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I don't know enough words to express what I feel. It is true - 'there are galaxies hidden in the stories we write'.. :)
ReplyDelete"there are galaxies hidden in the stories we write"..the line tells us what human beings are capable of...the magnificent inner strength and forbearance...i like the line "this man-made suffering" for its ambiguity...a wonderful write Natasa :)
ReplyDeletelosing is a game of the wind
ReplyDeletethe speed at which it takes
the blows it leaves behind...
I found this such a haunting poem, Natasa.
Oh Natasha, I so know what you feel. We are suffering alienation all over the world. Everything, moral, feelings, security, history, all of a sudden seem adrift.
ReplyDeleteWhen WW3 no longer seems an impossibility, we are bound to feel rudderless.
Well written.
i know kids like this....always running...because there is safety in running....and no one gets hurt because there are never any attachments...i feel you....you are not alone where you are feeling....
ReplyDeleteand guess what i got in the mail yesterday....you are now on my shelf....
oooo, that's so strange to hear that my book is on your shelf.. thank you very much! :)
DeleteYou have articulated well the painful desolation of "no safe ground to land on" that comes from loss. I hope that we gain peace of mind from writing down etchings from the galaxies...
ReplyDeleteThis disarray of feelings, words is familiar to many who had experienced the changes in life...and everyone brought something new from this challenge...main thing - don't lose yourself, your words, your truth....
ReplyDeleteLeaving, running can be very tempting when loss feels overwhelming and the ground seems to shift from under your feet. You have expressed your pain with very powerful and beautiful images - 'her wings flutter with madness' is probably my favorite.
ReplyDeleteA part of the cycle, a part of our ever changing landscape ~ Maybe we need to lose our way so we can find ourselves back again ~
ReplyDeleteThis is loosing it all - when all we seem without foothold and direction.. I think you expressing this feeling very well..
ReplyDeleteYour piece makes me feel my age--a good thing I think-but it does remind me that growing older is about loss--and sometimes I feel its wind on my back--like Kerry said--a haunting poem
ReplyDeleteThis is beautifully written and universally experienced. I especially admire: "wings flutter with madness", "this man-made suffering can make a stone of the heart", and "losing is a game of the wind." Hang in there, kiddo, up ahead lie people and events more wonderful than you could ever dream!!!! After tears, the rainbow!
ReplyDeleteA very well written poem asking a great question at the end.
ReplyDeleteI feel reluctance here that you are not sure about staying put or leaving yourself. I also feel your pain.
ReplyDeletecertainly a feeling of helplessness and loss - tough to be in that place - know that you are not alone
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem about alienation.Beautifully crafted. Loss losing survival acceptance resignation ...all part of life and all hard to accept.Hope is all we can cling on to.
ReplyDelete'there are galaxies hidden in the stories we write" ..so true Natasa. Losing everything is the most scary feeling one can ever have. Beautifully written!
ReplyDeleteI felt this piece... (well written)
ReplyDeleteAutumn seems to be the time for shedding what we do not need... to carry in our winter... to gather only what will help us survive and blossom in the spring. I suppose it's bitter-sweet, but, I believe it is carried on the current of joy :-)

I love when things just come pouring out!
ReplyDeleteLosing is hard, but we must do all we can to never let our hearts harden too much. Very well written and expressive. I liked reading this very much :)
